Tara Hall
Tara
Hall, named after Tara near Dublin (an ancient stronghold of Irish
kings of the 13th century), is a historically significant one of
a kind building reflecting the grandeur of times gone by. Built
by Archibauld McFaul (circa 1839), the home is impressive indeed,
both in design and sheer size.
Historically, Tara Hall was built twenty-two years
before the American Civil War and was so named ninety years before
Margaret Mitchell put pen to paper immortalizing its famed namesake
in Gone With the Wind .
From
the rare groin ceiling of the entrance hall to the elegant curved
staircase which rises gracefully beyond a semi-elliptical arch,
through the large principal rooms with their twelve foot ceilings,
there is an unusual elegance and symmetry to this neo-classic pre-Victorian
home.
Huge front windows allow brilliant sun to provide
a breathtaking view of West Lake, Lake Ontario, and parts of Sandbanks
Provincial Park, while contributing welcome warmth on sunny winter
days.
Wide original pine floors, plaster cornices/rosettes
and imposing fireplaces, all provide lasting character which dictates
a feeling of warmth and conviviality in this magnificently well
preserved heritage building.
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in the splendour of
our regal dining room. The 13 foot mahogany table comfortably accomodates
up to sixteen.
Step back in time 160 years (22 years before the
Civil War) and let your senses experience the atmosphere and historical
presence of days gone by. If you listen carefully with your imagination,
you might hear faint music emanating from the second floor ballroom
-- now comprising the large Family and King bedrooms. Renowned from
Toronto to Ottawa, Tara Hall was famous for its hospitality and
lavish parties which could last for several days. Please view our
romantic and spacious bedrooms, one with Main floor access and three
upstairs with panoramic views of West Lake and Lake Ontario.

a variety of tastes -- vegetarian and traditional dining -- using
seasonal county produce.
For shoppers there are craft and antique shops,
yard sales, sidewalk sales, art galleries, auctions, flea markets
and an annual fall event: the County studio tour. The number of
small antique shops is growing every year, and it is not unusual
to find shop owners who specialize in certain antiques -- specific
periods or styles, unusual collectibles or a range of items from
primitive furniture to fine china. There is something different
behind the doors of every County shop.
